Child Psychology Services – Misdiagnosis or delay in diagnosis
Medical misdiagnosis or delay in medical diagnosis in the context of child psychology services arises where a minor either does not receive a correct diagnosis or there is a delay in receiving the appropriate treatment.
In 2021, the HSE commenced an investigation into the files of children and adolescents who had received care between 2016 to 2020 at CAMHS.
Parents have recently been informed that there was a delay in diagnosing children and in some cases, children were misdiagnosed with the consequence that they did not receive appropriate care. The review is ongoing and parents are being invited to attend meetings to discuss the mismanagement in care.
