Marine Mortgages

When purchasing your boat finance is typically retained through a dealer or broker. There are several brokers available in Ireland. In most situations, you will be required to produce a deposit, which may be non-refundable if you back out of the transaction. Frequently the deposit may be in the region of 20%, so you should ensure you have the finances available prior to committing to the purchase. Before granting a marine mortgage for the purchase of a used vessel, the lender will require a full out-of-water survey and valuation on the boat. This is not the case generally with brand new boats. The lender will check if there is any finance outstanding on the boat being purchased.

Berwick Solicitors (Incorporating Callinan Murphy) have many years’ experience advising clients in respect of purchases and sales. We can provide you with the advice you require to guide you through the process inclusive of brokers and surveyors.
